Pengelli Woods, Eglwyswrw (Pembrokeshire)

Updated: Aug 27, 2023

So glad to have found a really lovely woodland walk that’s flat and not too far from us!

Credit to Carwyn for this find again! He pretends to not be interested in my blogging but secretly he loves to find new places for him to have a mensh!!

How to find Pengelli woods?

Bear with as I’m not great with instructions, but if you head to The Salutation in, make sure that’s on your left and head back towards Crymych. You’ll see a steep hill on your left just after the corner. Head up that hill, you have to drive through a ford and then you’ll eventually see a sign for Pengelli Nature Reserve on your right. There’s no official parking but we just parked on the road along with the other cars!

What’s there??

Nothing really, just a really really lovely woodland walk! We went following storm Eunice and even then the floor wasn’t very boggy and I managed the walk without wellies! What I liked about it was that it was practically flat (I know, lazy! But important when you have a little one on your own!!) There aren’t any toilets, shops or cafes very close by, but you are quite close to The Salutation Inn if you were looking to call for a meal or drink after visiting! I’m told they do a lovely Sunday dinner!

There’s lots of little inviting spots along the way for little people. Random shaped trees, loose bit of trees made into teepees and some benches for a snack stop. Dogs are allowed but it is noted that they should be on leads at all times due to endangered animals living there. I’m guessing for this reason no bikes are allowed along the paths either.

There’s a little map at the entrance showing the different routes you could follow. We did the yellow one today as it was the shortest and circular! It was really short actually so perfect for a nice walk for little ones who want to stop CONSTANTLY to pick up every stick in the sodding forest!! We will definitely try the red route next time!

I am a sucker for a good woodland walk. Next time I’ll 100% be taking our hot chocolates and a picnic and spending a lot longer there! Great find, Carwyn 😉
